Is Printify Premium Worth It in 2026? We Did the Math
Some links are affiliate links. We may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
- At $39/mo (monthly billing), you break even at ~17 orders per month
- At $24.99/mo (annual billing), you break even at ~11 orders per month
- The 20% product discount saves $1.50β$4.00 per item depending on what you sell
- Premium is not worth it if you sell fewer than 10 items per month
- Annual billing saves $169/year over monthly β switch if you plan to stay on Premium
Printify Premium costs $39 per month after the February 2026 price increase. That is $10 more than before. Is the 20% product discount still worth it? We ran the numbers on real products to find out exactly when upgrading makes financial sense.
The Break-Even Math
The Premium planβs main value is the product discount β up to 20% off base costs from most print providers. The question is simple: does the money you save on products exceed what you pay for the subscription?
Monthly billing ($39/mo) break-even
With an average product base cost of $12 and a 20% discount saving about $2.40 per order, you need approximately 17 orders per month to break even on the $39 subscription. Anything above 17 orders is pure profit from the discount.
Annual billing ($24.99/mo) break-even
With annual billing at $24.99 per month, the break-even drops to just 11 orders per month. That is a much more attainable threshold for most sellers.
Savings at Every Volume Level
| Orders/Month | Discount Savings | Monthly Cost ($39) | Net Gain (Monthly) | Monthly Cost ($24.99) | Net Gain (Annual) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $12.00 | $39.00 | -$27.00 | $24.99 | -$12.99 |
| 10 | $24.00 | $39.00 | -$15.00 | $24.99 | -$0.99 |
| 15 | $36.00 | $39.00 | -$3.00 | $24.99 | +$11.01 |
| 17 | $40.80 | $39.00 | +$1.80 | $24.99 | +$15.81 |
| 20 | $48.00 | $39.00 | +$9.00 | $24.99 | +$23.01 |
| 50 | $120.00 | $39.00 | +$81.00 | $24.99 | +$95.01 |
| 100 | $240.00 | $39.00 | +$201.00 | $24.99 | +$215.01 |

What Premium Actually Saves on Real Products
Not all products benefit equally from the 20% discount. Higher-priced items save you more per unit:
| Product | Free Price | Premium Price | Savings/Unit | Units to Break Even ($39/mo) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Tee (Bella+Canvas 3001) | $9.40 | $7.52 | $1.88 | 21 units |
| Premium Tee (Comfort Colors) | $12.80 | $10.24 | $2.56 | 16 units |
| Hoodie (Gildan 18500) | $18.20 | $14.56 | $3.64 | 11 units |
| All-Over Print Tee | $16.50 | $13.20 | $3.30 | 12 units |
| Canvas Poster 18Γ24 | $8.50 | $6.80 | $1.70 | 23 units |
| Phone Case | $12.75 | $10.20 | $2.55 | 16 units |
| 11oz Mug | $5.18 | $4.14 | $1.04 | 38 units |
Notice that mugs require 38 sales per month to break even on Premium, while hoodies only need 11. If you sell mostly low-cost items like stickers or mugs, Premium takes longer to pay off.
Annual vs Monthly: The $169 Question
After the 2026 price increase, the gap between monthly and annual billing is significant:
| Billing | Monthly Rate | Annual Cost | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly | $39.00 | $468.00 | β |
| Annual | $24.99 | $299.00 | Save $169/year |
If you stay on Premium for the full year, annual billing saves you $169 β that is 4.3 free months. The only reason to stay on monthly is if you are testing Premium short-term and might cancel within 3 months.
When to Upgrade from Free to Premium
The magic number: upgrade when you consistently hit 15 or more orders per month for at least 2 consecutive months. At that volume, Premium pays for itself even on monthly billing.
- You are getting 15+ orders per month consistently (not a one-time spike)
- You sell products with a base cost above $8 (higher savings per unit)
- You need more than 5 connected stores
- You want priority support for faster issue resolution
- You plan to use Printify Connect for automated order tracking
When Premium Is NOT Worth It
Not everyone should upgrade. Here are situations where the Free plan makes more sense:
- You sell fewer than 10 items per month β the savings will not cover the subscription
- You are still testing designs and have not found a winning niche yet
- You are a seasonal seller (e.g., holiday-only) β consider monthly billing only during peak months
- You primarily sell low-margin items like stickers or keychains where the 20% discount is small in absolute terms

Premium vs Enterprise: When to Level Up

Contact Printifyβs sales team for a custom quote β the pricing is negotiated based on your volume and product mix.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I downgrade from Premium back to Free?
Yes. You can downgrade at any time. Your premium discount stops at the end of your current billing cycle, but your stores and designs are not affected. You just lose the 20% product discount and priority support.
Does the Premium discount apply to shipping costs?
No. The 20% discount only applies to product base costs, not shipping fees. Shipping rates are set by the individual print providers and are the same on Free and Premium plans.
Is there a free trial for Printify Premium?
Printify occasionally offers free trial promotions, but there is no permanent free trial. The Free plan itself serves as an unlimited trial β you can use it indefinitely and upgrade only when the math makes sense for your volume.
How fast is Premium priority support?
Printify states that Premium members receive faster response times, typically within a few hours compared to 24β48 hours for Free plan users. During peak seasons, the difference can be significant.
