Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PODMargin.
What is Print-on-Demand (POD)?
Print-on-demand is a business model where products like t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, and phone cases are only produced when a customer places an order. You design the product, list it on a marketplace or your own store, and the POD provider handles printing, packaging, and shipping. You never hold inventory.
How does the PODMargin calculator work?
Set your selling price, choose a sales channel (Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, or own website), select plan tiers, and enable the providers you want to compare. The calculator shows your net profit with a full breakdown โ base cost, shipping, plan discounts, channel fees, payment processing, tax, and return buffer โ for every provider, ranked by profit.
Is PODMargin free?
Yes, completely free. Chayaani provides all its tools at no cost. No account required, no sign-up, no credit card, no hidden fees. Just open the calculator and start comparing.
Which POD providers are supported?
PODMargin supports 10+ providers in two categories. Fulfillment: Printful, Printify, Gelato, SPOD, and Gooten. Marketplace: Redbubble, TeePublic, Society6, Zazzle, and Merch by Amazon. Each comes with verified 2026 default costs that you can customize.
What are the differences between Fulfillment and Marketplace providers?
Fulfillment providers (like Printful and Printify) handle printing and shipping โ you sell on your own channel like Etsy or Shopify. Marketplace providers (like Redbubble and TeePublic) are the sales channel โ they handle the store, customers, and transactions. The calculator uses different formulas for each type.
What sales channels are supported?
For fulfillment providers, you can choose from Etsy, Shopify (Starter/Basic/Grow/Advanced), Amazon (Individual/Professional), or your own website. Each has its real fee structure โ listing fees, transaction fees, payment processing, and referral fees are all calculated automatically.
What is the Price Finder / Reverse Calculator?
The Price Finder lets you set a target profit margin (e.g., 30%) and instantly see the minimum selling price youโd need for each fulfillment provider. It accounts for all costs and fees to give you an accurate minimum price.
What is the Etsy Fee Calculator?
The Etsy Fee Calculator is a standalone tool that shows you exactly how much Etsy takes from every sale. It breaks down listing fees ($0.20), transaction fees (6.5%), payment processing (3% + $0.25), offsite ads (15% or 12%), currency conversion (2.5%), and the regulatory operating fee (0.5%). It also shows a quick reference table of fees at different price points.
How accurate are the calculations?
The calculations are mathematically precise based on the numbers you enter. However, actual costs may vary depending on your specific products, print locations, volume discounts, and current provider pricing. Always verify final costs with your provider before setting prices.
Can I save my calculations?
Yes! Click the Save button to name and store a configuration. You can save multiple configurations (e.g., โBlack T-Shirt $25โ, โMug $18โ) and load them later to compare different pricing strategies.
Do I need to create an account?
No. PODMargin uses an anonymous device ID stored in your browser to associate saved configurations. Thereโs no sign-up, no email, and no personal information collected.
Is my data safe?
Yes. We only store the cost numbers you enter for saved configurations, linked to an anonymous browser ID. We donโt collect personal information, donโt use cookies for tracking, and donโt share data with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes! PODMargin is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets, and desktops. The layout automatically adapts to your screen size.
What does โmarginโ mean?
Profit margin is your net profit expressed as a percentage of the selling price. For example, if you sell a shirt for $25 and your total costs are $15, your net profit is $10 and your margin is 40% ($10 / $25). Higher margins mean more profit per sale.
